Martens shows himself in sixth stage Paris-Nice

Although Team LottoNL-Jumbo only had three riders left in the race, the team managed to show themselves in the sixth stage of Paris-Nice. After the race had started without an ill Tom Leezer, Paul Martens was present in the early breakaway. The 34-year-old German never got a big lead, however, and he was caught early.

All three remaining riders of Team LottoNL-Jumbo had the objective to be in the early breakaway today. "We succeeded with Paul and for him it’s a nice boost after a difficult winter", sports director Frans Maassen said. "Unfortunately, the well-classified Dylan Teuns was also in front for a long time. So the breakaway didn’t get a big lead. Besides, Paul wasn’t good enough yet to go with the best.”

The riders also want to show themselves in the remaining two days. "It is a shame that we have lost another rider with Tom, but he wasn’t fit yesterday and it seemed senseless for him to start. Nevertheless, we also want to show ourselves the coming days, as we did today”, Maassen said.
