Jos van Emden just misses podium in time trial Abu Dhabi
Jos van Emden has missed the podium by a whisker in the time trial of the Abu Dhabi Tour. The time trial specialist of Team LottoNL-Jumbo had to settle for fourth place. Van Emden is also fourth in the overall standings.
It took Van Emden fourteen minutes and 37 seconds to complete the short time trial of twelve and and a half kilometres. He was sixteen seconds slower than winner Rohan Dennis.
Sports director Sierk Jan de Haan said that it was not a bad result, especially considering the circumstances. “Jos wasn’t in his best shape. The wind came from all sides, it was warm and he wasn’t as strong as he had expected.”
De Haan also looked ahead to the last stage of the Abu Dhabi Tour, which is a characterised by an uphill finish. "We are going to play Antwan Tolhoek for that. We will protect him during the race and race attentively. The intention is to make sure that Antwan arrives unscathed at the foot of the climb. On the ascent he can seize the opportunitiy and perhaps he can surprise. He is in good shape and he is allowed to show what he’s made of.”
