Surrounded by his teammates, Vingegaard reached the finish line safe and sound. After today, the Team Visma | Lease a Bike leader's victory tally came to seven.

"I have to say it once again: the guys did a brilliant job to keep me out of trouble," responded a content Vingegaard. "It was real racing in pursuit of the leading group, so it was important to stay focused. It ended up being another tough day, but we were able to defend the jersey with verve."

I look forward to giving it a nice place in my house soon. The overall victory in Tirreno - Adriatico belongs in the list of my most beautiful victories."
