Vingegaard finishes second in final classification Tirreno-Adriatico

Vingegaard finishes second in final classification Tirreno-Adriatico

Jonas Vingegaard’s second place has not been compromised in the final stage of Tirreno-Adriatico. The stage around San Benedetto del Tronto ended in the expected bunch sprint. Olav Kooij was unable to get involved in the battle for victory and finished in eighth place.

Three riders broke away at the hilly start of the stage and gained a three-minute lead. The peloton kept the tempo high throughout the stage and as a result, the leading group was caught at seven kilometres from the finish. At a road narrowing in the final kilometre, the Team Jumbo-Visma train was too far behind and the team could not make up for it anymore.

"I’m happy and proud to be on the podium of Tirreno-Adriatico"

Jonas Vingegaard

“I’m happy and proud to be on the podium of Tirreno-Adriatico”, Vingegaard said. “It’s a big race. I was unhappy about my time trial, but that didn’t prove decisive for my final classification. This time the pressure of the team was on my shoulders, so I’m happy to have shown that I can perform well under those circumstances.”
