Vingegaard falls one second short of overall victory in CRO Race

Jonas Vingegaard has narrowly missed out on overall victory in the CRO Race. The Dane fell one second short of nearest rival Matej Mohoric in the final stage. Bonification seconds decided the Croatian stage race.

The final stage was all about bonification seconds. Vingegaard knew he had to be cautious given his eight-second advantage, the three bonification sprints, and the final sprint. "We knew Bahrain would try early on. We tried too, but I'm not quick enough to sprint alongside these riders."

"I would have liked to have won here, but it is what it is."

"I am not a sprinter and I don't want to interfere in peloton sprints", Vingegaard continued. "I would have liked to have won here, but it is what it is. Mohoric picked up enough bonification seconds today and he deserves it. This is also part of cycling."

The Tour of Lombardy will now be the main focus for the Tour winner. With two stage wins under his belt, Vingegaard looks ahead with confidence. "I'm happy and satisfied with the form this week. I'm looking forward to the coming week. It's one of the main objectives this season."
