Veenhoven sprints to fourth place in Flanders Diamond Tour

Nienke Veenhoven just missed out on a podium place in the Flanders Diamond Tour. After a 130-kilometer race, the 20-year-old rider sprinted to fourth place. Chiara Consonni took the win in the streets of Nijlen.

In the 11th edition of the Flanders Diamond Tour, the pace quickly picked up in the peloton. The local laps, with three cobbled sections each, created a split in the peloton after 60 kilometers. The front group, including several riders from the black-and-yellow formation, quickly created a solid gap. Despite several attack attempts, the group stayed together. In the sprint, which Consonni won, Veenhoven finished in fourth place.

"Nienke is developing well and getting closer to victory every race"

Jos van Emden

“Nienke is developing well and getting closer to victory every race,” sport director Jos van Emden said. "It goes with small steps, but she makes progress every time. Before, she was not always able to get involved in the sprint, but the last races she is doing a lot better. It's nice to see this development."

With good results in Dwars door het Hageland and the Flanders Diamond Tour, Van Emden can look back on past weekend with a satisfied feeling. “After we already had a very good race yesterday, the riders showed their best side again today. We were with four riders in the leading group, and in the end, we were able to compete with Nienke for the victory. But most importantly, we showed ourselves and rode well in both races."
