Van Dijke narrowly misses out on Dutch time trial title

Mick van Dijke grabbed silver at the Dutch time trial championships. The 24-year-old rider from Team Visma | Lease a Bike came one second short of the gold, which went to Daan Hoole. Bart Lemmen finished thirteenth.

Van Dijke, who fell in the Tour of Belgium, started his time trial cautiously, but accelerated in the second part. At the first intermediate point, Van Dijke was still ten seconds behind Hoole. So on the line this was reduced, but Van Dijke came up one second short of the gold.

"I had the legs to win"

Mick van Dijke

"I felt super good today," Van Dijke spoke afterwards. "I started a bit more cautiously, partly because of my fall in the Tour of Belgium. In the second part I accelerated. It suddenly went a whole lot faster. I was confident. When I heard the difference was a second, of course I was disappointed. Daan is a real specialist. There's no shame in losing from him. I had the legs to win, so that’s a real shame."
