Three in a row for Kooij in Tour of Britain

Three in a row for Kooij in Tour of Britain

Olav Kooij has won the third stage of the Tour of Britain with a strong performance. It was the third stage win this week for the 21-year-old sprinter of Team Jumbo-Visma. He was also the fastest in the first two stages.

"It was another great team performance”, Kooij said after his third win in Great Britain. "We have gained a lot of confidence from the first two days before. Today, we showed again that we can finish it off. That's great.”

While the bunch sprints in the first two stages seemed to be a copy of each other, today’s stage was different. "This was more of an uphill finish. Even though it seemed like we got to the front a little too early, thanks to the skills of riders like Edo and Wout, I was perfectly guided to the finish line.”

The win in Beverley, England, was the Dutch top sprinter's tenth individual victory of the season. The season tally for Team Jumbo-Visma now stands at 55 victories.

"Olav is one of the biggest talents on the WorldTour. He is having a fantastic season."

Merijn Zeeman

Sportive director Merijn Zeeman was proud to have achieved one of the team's main goals: "Victories for Olav are an important goal for us this season. With his tenth individual victory today, he has achieved the goal we set as a team before this cycling year.”

"Olav is one of the biggest talents on the WorldTour. He is having a fantastic season. It is extraordinary that Olav is showing all this at such a young age”, the sportive director continued. "Olav is an incredible talent. We are very proud of him. We help him as much as we can, as we did this week with a super strong team in Great Britain. We will be seeing a lot of Olav in the future.”
