Team Visma | Lease a Bike wraps up French triptych successfully
On Sunday, Team Visma | Lease a Bike concluded the French triptych of one-day races in a good way. In the Tour du Doubs, Pietro Mattio, Tim Rex and Menno Huising ensured an attractive race, where ultimately a top ranking was missing out.
The Dutch cycling formation started with a young and talented six at the start of its first participation in the French classic. Just like in the Classic Grand Besançon Doubs and Tour du Jura Cycliste, the yellow-black brigade did not hide at all after the start. Pietro Mattio and Tim Rex attacked and were accompanied by four riders. The duo held on for a long time, but after accelerations in the peloton, staying ahead was not an option any more.
Later in the race, Menno Huising also attacked, but his attempt turned out to be in vain. On the steep slopes of the Côte du Barboux, Team Visma | Lease a Bike was not represented among the seven leaders and a battle for victory in France was no longer possible. The victory was for French rider Mattéo Vercher.
"Every day we have shown ourselves directly from the start"
Nevertheless, Marc Reef enjoyed the way his talents raced. “The goal beforehand was to be in the breakaway of the day again. Pietro and Tim were rock solid today and also did a good job for our other guys later in the race. Unfortunately, everything fell apart on the last steep climb and we were not in the small group that ultimately rode for the victory.”
The sports director looks back on the three one-day races in France with satisfaction. “Every day we have shown ourselves directly from the start. We consciously travelled to France with a young team. Unfortunately we had some bad luck with Jørgen's flat tire in the final of the Classic Grand Besançon Doubs, but he took revenge yesterday in the Tour du Jura with a good tenth place. Cian also showed some nice steps in the good direction during this triptych. I have a positive feeling about this weekend."
