Team Visma | Lease a Bike came through safe in longest stage of the Tirreno - Adriatico

Should the 2024 cycling year ever be seen in a movie, the third stage of the Tirreno - Adriatico is unlikely to be a prominent scene in it. Heading into the decisive second half of the Italian stage race, leader Jonas Vingegaard came through safe.

The day began with a setback for Team Visma | Lease a Bike. Robert Gesink did not appear at the start after his crash in stage two yesterday.

Apart from the final phase, very little happened in the stage that took the peloton from Volterra to Gualdo Tadino. On the only categorized climb of the day, the pace was increased a bit. Vingegaard was attentive at the front of the peloton. The final sprint toward the finish was won by German Phil Bauhaus.

"Everyone made it to the finish safely"

Grischa Niermann

"It was a long day," stated sports director Grischa Niermann after the end of the longest stage of this Tirreno - Adriatico. "With Robert dropping out, we started this stage with mixed feelings. Along the way it started to rain. In my opinion, it never stopped. The low temperatures didn't make it very pleasant. Little happened along the way, but fortunately everyone made it to the finish safely. That's the most important thing."
