Team Jumbo-Visma ends Tirreno with seventh place for Van Emden

Jos van Emden has finished seventh in the final time trial of the Tirreno-Adriatico. The Dutch time trial champion was second (twice) and third on the same course in previous editions, but today he came short for another podium place. The race against the clock was won by the Italian Flilipo Ganna. Briton Simon Yates took the overall victory.

Team Jumbo-Visma looked back on the Tirreno with a good feeling. Van Emden, however, was disappointed with his performance. “It was a great goal to achieve a good performance here. However, I didn’t do a good time trial. I lacked the power that I needed here, so I am really disappointed. I can’t be satisfied with the seventh place.”

Sports director Jan Boven was also disappointed. “We had hoped for more than the seventh place for Jos today. His speed was not high enough to beat a fantastic Ganna.” Still, Boven could look back on a good week for his team. “The week was all about attractive racing and seazing opportunities as soon as they came up. The guys did well. We showed ourselves in the front of the race several times. The Tirreno was a good prelude to the upcoming races.”
