Strand Hagenes closes season with win in Paris-Tours Espoirs

Per Strand Hagenes has won Paris-Tours Espoirs. The 19-year-old Norwegian proved the strongest on the tricky course and crossed the finish line solo. With Strand Hagenes' win, Jumbo-Visma Development Team’s victory tally stands at eleven.

"We rode a good race today”, said a happy Strand Hagenes, who took three wins in 2022. "In the beginning, numerous powerful breakaway groups were riding off. We then started the chase and that was crucial. Otherwise, the escapees would have stayed ahead. I attacked on the gravelly parts, and no one pursued. One and a half kilometres from the finish, I caught up to the race leader and then jumped clear of him. Rick Pluimers successfully maneuvered himself in the group behind at the same time. He tried to slow down the pace, so there was less cooperation. It was an excellent team performance and I'm happy to finish the season like this."

"I am super proud of the boys."

Sports director Robert Wagner also complimented his team. "I am super proud of the boys. They were sharp from the start and we took responsibility in the race. We had hoped other teams would help us, but unfortunately, that didn't happen. At that point, the right thing to do was for Darren van Bekkum to take the lead. It's great to see how Per finished it off. He executed our plan perfectly."
