RideLondon Classique proves to be learning experience for Team Visma | Lease a Bike
Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women was unable to play a significant role in the final stage of the RideLondon Classique. In the 96 kilometer ride through London, Jos van Emden's team once again saw Lorena Wiebes take the win. In the final classification Linda Riedmann finished in seventeenth place.
The third and final stage took place in the heart of London, where the riders had to complete eight laps of twelve kilometer. Halfway through, two riders managed to create a small lead, but the peloton caught up with the duo with two laps to go. Without Lieke Nooijen, who fell in the last lap, Nienke Veenhoven tried to work her way to the front, but did not manage to sprint for the podium spots.
"I had hoped for something more," Veenhoven looks back on her sprint. "I had my sights set on today's stage, but on your own it's hard to squeeze in between the other sprinting trains. There were only four of us and by the time Lieke crashed, it was almost no go against the bigger teams. I did my best, but this is not the result we came for."
"We have been able to learn super much over the past three days."
According to Veenhoven, the RideLondon Classique has been a good learning experience for the team. "We are all still young and have been able to learn super much over the past three days. We raced as a team and although it didn't always go the way we wanted, we can take this with us into the rest of the season."
