Koster eighth in final stage Giro Donne

Anouska Koster has finished eighth in the final stage of the Giro d’Italia Donne. The final stage was won by the American Coryn Rivera. Anna van der Breggen took the pink jersey.

The tenth stage started from Capriva Del Friuli. The hilly route contained four climbs of the third category. Five riders, including pink jersey wearer Van der Breggen, made a decisive attack early in the race. The difference with the peloton quickly increased to more than two minutes. Eventually, four riders managed to stay ahead of the peloton. On behalf of Team Jumbo-Visma, the Dutch Koster rode to eighth place in the sprint of the chasing pack.

“The three of us gave everything this last day. The morale was high and it was super to race with the girls”, Koster said. “I felt good. It was very hot and in the peloton it was a knockout race. Teuntje Beekhuis had crashed and Riejanne Markus had material problems so they had lost a lot of strength. Riejanne coached me well in the final. I entered the sprint early but I’m glad I could finish fourth of the bunch. Today was a very nice finish.”

Sports director Marco Postma looked back on the team’s performance in the Italian stage race with satisfaction: “As a team we can look back on a very nice Giro. With the two stage victories of Marianne Vos and the way we rode as a team this week, we have certainly achieved our goals. We learned a lot as a team and we were able to make new steps. Marianne’s 30th victory in the Giro was a special moment.”
