Kooij unable to sprint in Tour de Pologne due to delay in final kilometre

Olav Kooij could not sprint for the day's victory in the fifth stage of the Tour de Pologne. Many riders were forced to abandon the race after a crash in the final kilometre. The Dutch sprinter could narrowly avoid the crash, but his forced maneuver left him no chance for victory.

The stage with more than two thousand altimeters did not immediately seem like a typical sprint stage, but the fast men's teams managed to keep things under control.

"Unfortunately, Olav didn't get to sprint today", said sports director Arthur van Dongen. "Mike also got involved in the crash. Given the circumstances, he is doing well. He made it to the finish and only has some abrasions. The preparation for the sprint looked good from our side, but we were a bit unfortunate. Tomorrow a time trial is on the program. For us as a team, it's a matter of getting everyone to the finish in one piece. On Friday in the final stage, we want to sprint with Olav for the win."
