Henderson and Kasper provide Team Jumbo-Visma with beautiful top ten places in Le Samyn des Dames
The second race turned out well for the women’s team of Team Jumbo-Visma. In the uphill finish in Dour in Wallonia, the British Anna Henderson sprinted to eighth place and the German Romy Kasper to place ten.
The yellow-black formation of sports directors Marco Postma and Lieselot Decroix was at the front throughout the race. The riders of Team Jumbo-Visma were often in the front on the cobbled sections and hills. Kasper and Henderson made diligent attempts to get away in the final, but were unsuccessful. In spite of this, Kasper and Henderson managed to claim a decent top ten place in the final sprint.
"I am very proud of how we rode as a team. It is only the second race and we are already making great steps."
“It was hectic from the start”, Kasper said. “We did well as a team and we were always present in the front. That was also a goal for today. Because my teammates protected me well, I was able to save a lot of energy. In the final stage of the race Anna and I attacked some more, but we couldn’t get away. It was really a battle of attacks in the last two laps. Getting a top ten result was the goal , and it is great that even two of us achieved that.”
Henderson was grateful to her teammates. “Teuntje Beekhuis and Karlijn Swinkels kept me in a good position from the start. Together with Romy I countered several attacks. We also tried to create a gap ourselves. However, that didn’t work out. In the sprint we gave everything that was left. I am very proud of how we rode as a team. It is only the second race and we are already making great steps.”
