Harper attacks in fourth stage Tour de Hongrie

Chris Harper has gone for the attack in the fourth stage of the Tour de Hongrie. The Australian rider of Team Jumbo-Visma was part of an early breakaway of five riders. At fifteen kilometres from the finish he was caught by the peloton.

With thirty-five kilometres to go he left his fellow escapees behind in an attempt to reach the finish solo. Just before the final he was caught by the big group and the stage ended in the expected bunch sprint. Team Jumbo-Visma was able to avoid another big crash, which happened just before the last kilometre, and all riders crossed the line safely.

Sports director Sierk Jan de Haan: “The team was in the front all day to check what was happening. We knew it could be a hectic final today. That’s why we deliberately did not interfere. However, Chris had a very good day and was attentive from the first attack. He even started a strong solo but unfortunately he got caught by the bunch. The good feeling has certainly given him morale for tomorrow.”
