Fourth place for Team Jumbo-Visma in team time trial Vårgårda WestSweden
Team Jumbo-Visma has finished fourth on the first day of the Vårgårda WestSweden. In the 35.6-kilometre team time trial, the yellow and black brigade came thirty seconds short of the podium.
The Vårgårda WestSweden, a two-day race in Sweden, made its first appearance on the calendar in 2019. Due to corona, the race was not held the past two years; today, the teams could race again in and around Vårgårda. On behalf of Team Jumbo-Visma Amber Kraak, Romy Kasper, Linda Riedmann, Karlijn Swinkels, Anouska Koster and Carlijn Achtereekte appeared at the start.
On the slightly hilly course, Team Jumbo-Visma set a good target time, but it proved not enough to finish on the podium. Trek-Segafredo (first), Team SD Worx (second) and Team DSM (third) were all faster. "Of course it's a shame that we just missed out on a podium place, but I'm happy with this result. The girls did well", race coach Carmen Small said.
The goal of the team time trial was to gain experience and ride technically well. Small said she succeeded at that. "Four riders had never ridden a team time trial, so the focus was mainly on the process. Because the Vuelta also contains a team time trial, it was good practice. Of course there are still plenty of improvements to be gained, but that is alright. We can certainly build on this."
