Eenkhoorn sprints to victory in final stage Coppi e Bartali
Pascal Eenkhoorn has won the final stage of the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali. After he had just fallen short in yesterday’s final sprint, the 23-year-old Eenkhoorn was the fastest today.
It is Eenkhoorn’s first victory of the season, who rode the Italian stage race for the Jumbo-Visma Development Team. He took the victory tally of the Development Team to seven. Earlier this week, Olav Kooij won the opening stage of Coppi e Bartali.
Eenkhoorn was happy to end the race this way. “It was a tough stage, but I felt really good all day long. Fortunately I was able to get over Ulissi in the sprint. Yesterday I just fell short, today it all fell into place. I look back on a good week. It was nice to be on the road with the U23 riders and to teach them a little.”
"Yesterday he was close. It makes it even more beautiful that he took the win today."
"It is really great that Pascal wins today", sports director Jan Boven said. “We had two options for the sprint today. During the stage we would decide whether we would sprint with Olav or Pascal. In the end there was a group of about twenty-five riders that rode over the top of the final climb, including Pascal. Yesterday he was close. It makes it even more beautiful that he took the win today.”
Boven sees Eenkhoorn’s victory as a nice end to a good and educational week. “We won two stages and we also rode a strong team time trial. The young men of the Development Team have learned a lot this week. Not only from riding at this level, but also from our professional riders Taco and Pascal.”
