Dekker tenth in first stage in line Sibiu Tour

David Dekker has finished tenth in the first stage of the Sibiu Tour. The sprinter of Team Jumbo-Visma came up short and Tim van Dijke had to give up his leader's jersey to stage winner Fiorelli.

Today's stage was likely to end in a sprint. Because of this, Team Jumbo-Visma needed to control the race. "It went well today. Quite early in the stage, five riders broke away. As the race leader's team, we controlled the race. We didn't get much help. Around twenty kilometers before the finish, we closed the gap and sprinted with David. The tenth place is the result and that's it”, concluded sports director Addy Engels.

"We are going to focus on the classification"

According to Engels, the focus will now be on the next goal in this Sibiu Tour. "We are going to focus on the classification. GC riders Chris and Gijs finished without problems today, fortunately. Tomorrow there is an uphill finish. That will be a critical moment for the classification. After that, the climbing time trial on Tuesday morning is another good test."
