De Vries tenth in time trial Tour de Suisse
Femke de Vries finished tenth in the time trial of the Tour of Switzerland. After finishing fourteenth in the opening stage on Saturday, De Vries now managed to enter the top ten. Demi Vollering won the stage.
With a flat start and an uphill finish the time trial could rightly be described as tough. The final climb was about ten kilometers long at an average gradient of eight percent. De Vries covered the total 15.7-kilometer in just over 42 minutes.
"I'm really content with how it went," De Vries said afterwards. "Top ten in the WorldTour, I never would have dared dream that a while ago. I felt very good. In my opinion, I did a good job with the time trial. I paid particular attention to holding myself back a bit in the beginning. The coaching from the car was also good, which allowed me to then focus on a good time trial. This is a very nice result!"
Sports director Jan Boven is proud of De Vries. "Femke is a very fine discovery. It's nice to see that she can handle this level. She rode a very strong time trial today. Also Rosita Reijnhout and Fem van Empel rode a solid race against the clock."
