Groenewegen restarts season in Tour de Pologne, mix of young and old in Czech Cycling Tour

Dylan Groenewegen will restart his cycling season in the Tour de Pologne this Wednesday. The World Tour race includes three sprint stages and two mountain stages. The Czech Cycling Tour starts on Thursday. The line-up consists of a mix of World Tour riders and Development Team riders.

Groenewegen, who already won three races before the corona break, will be joined by Jos van Emden and Christoph Pfingsten for the sprint train. Jonas Vingegaard aims for a good classification in the five-day stage race.

Sports director Frans Maassen: “We want to win sprints with Dylan. Jos and Christoph will support him in the sprint. Jonas goes for a good result in the general classification. There are many strong climbers at the start, so the competition will be fierce. The third and fourth stage are finishes uphill and will determine the classification. The other stages will probably end in a bunch sprint.”

In Chris Harper and Tobias Foss, Vingegaard has two talented climbers on his side. Maassen: “Chris is back in Europe after his stay in his home country Australia during the corona break. Earlier this season, he already raced in the Ruta del Sol and the Tour de la Provence, among others. Tobias can test whether he can compete with the best climbers in his first World Tour race. Taco van der Hoorn completes the line-up.”

Olav Kooij has had a successful season so far. He will start in the Czech Republic with Development Team teammates Lars Boven, Owen Geleijn and Michel Hessmann. Maarten Wynants, Koen Bouwman and Pascal Eenkhoorn are also part of the line-up.

Sports director Robert Wagner: “The Czech Cycling Tour has a varied race profile. The four-day stage race starts with a team time trial of 18.6 kilometres. The second stage will probably end in a mass sprint. The course of the third stage is a lot more difficult. The fourth stage will be decisive for the general classification.”
