Tour de France winner's and other legendary Team Jumbo-Visma bikes up for auction

Together with Catawiki, the leading online marketplace for special objects, Team Jumbo-Visma presents today an auction featuring 18 bikes that played a decisive role in the 2022 cycling season.

Among these iconic bikes is a Cervélo R5 of Jonas Vingegaard, which played an instrumental role in the mountain stages and his victory in this year’s Tour de France. The green-decorated S5 of green jersey winner Wout van Aert and the bicycle of Marianne Vos, who took the green jersey home from the Tour de France Femmes. The auction will run from 8th to 19th December.

Jonas Vingegaard says on the bicycle with which he managed to win the yellow jersey in the Tour de France this year: “This bicycle was part of my biggest achievement in cycling to date. I’m very grateful that I started this Tour de France in Denmark and returned to Copenhagen with the yellow jersey. This bike has left a lasting legacy.”

Among the eighteen unique bicycles that will be up for auction are also Koen Bouwman’s Cervélo R5, which helped him win the blue jersey of the mountain classification and two stages during the Giro d’Italia 2022, and Primoz Roglic’s R5 which he battled his contenders on during this year’s Tour de France stage towards the Col du Granon. Fans will also be able to get Tom Dumoulin's last Grand Tour bike, a Cervélo R5 that he rode in this year's Giro d'Italia. Each bike will come with a unique handwritten note from the riders, where the bikes' own legacy will come to life.

"This auction as a keystone initiative to help cycling talent move forward"

Richard Plugge

Genevieve Tearle, Vice President Collectables at Catawiki, says: “At Catawiki we want to fulfil people's passions. By auctioning off these eighteen unique bikes, cycling enthusiasts can now live the legacy of the bicycles that have written cycling history this year, contributing to the development of new talent that will write this sport's future. It excites me that these items, with so many stories and great value, will keep living on in the passion of our users, and I can't wait for the auction to begin.”

Proceeds of the auction will go to the development of cycling talent. The team already has a full infrastructure in place with the Team Jumbo-Visma Academy, the Jumbo-Visma Development Team and the national initiative CyclingClassNL. With these activities, Team Jumbo-Visma plays an important role in stimulating cycling talents, such as Olav Kooij. The Dutch rider has been with the team since the start of the Development Team and is now a rising star.

Director of Team Jumbo-Visma Richard Plugge sees this auction as a keystone initiative to help cycling talent move forward. “At Team Jumbo-Visma we’re engaged in many initiatives supporting cycling talents to flourish. Think of our Academy, the talents of our Development Team, and of course the initiative CyclingClassNL in which we participate as a cycling team. That is how we truly contribute to the future of Dutch cycling and this auction enables us to take the next step.”
