Safety first with CloseTheGap

Safety first with CloseTheGap

Our riders' bikes are optimised down to the smallest detail. The general rule is as little weight as possible, as much aerodynamics as possible and maximum comfort. To achieve this, we work closely with a number of parties. One of them is CloseTheGap.

Cervélo supplies the bikes for Team Jumbo-Visma, SRAM the groupsets and Fizik the saddles. The wheels are from Reserve, and the tyres are from Vittoria. For two much smaller but essential parts, we can count on CloseTheGap. Our computer mounts and handlebar caps are from this Dutch company.

CloseTheGap founder Mathijs Wagenaar's mission is to make cycling safer and more fun. The HideMyBell is the first product Wagenaar has designed himself. It has been used by Team Jumbo-Visma since 2021. He developed a professional version of this computer holder, especially for our S5 bike. It is made of lightweight material but is very rigid so that the riders can always read their training data correctly in all conditions.

"Our riders cannot do without their Garmin bike computer during training and races", says Jenco Drost, Head of Performance Equipment at Team Jumbo-Visma. "The CloseTheGap mounts are aerodynamic and meet all our requirements. The HideMyBells that we install on the training bikes are also all equipped with an (invisible) bell so that the athletes can complete their training sessions safely. The competition version is minimalist but has the necessary rigidity."

In addition to the computer mounts, CloseTheGap also supplies the team with handlebar caps known as SaveMyBar. "These caps have been developed especially for us", Drost continues. "They absorb the first impact in the event of a crash, which means that a handlebar does not always have to be replaced after a crash. This saves time and money. Not only is it an excellent idea, but it also takes the pressure off our mechanics."

Team Jumbo-Visma and CloseTheGap recently extended their collaboration for another year until at least 2024.

HideMyBell regular2 - Team Visma | Lease a Bike
HideMyBell regular2 - Team Visma | Lease a Bike

Every proper city bike has a bell, but for sports-minded cyclists they’re a big no-no: they look stupid, add weight and ruin aerodynamics! Sound familiar? Well, times change! Introducing the solution: HideMyBell. The new and improved second generation regular2 brings improved road safety to your fingertips, and looks right at home on any good road or gravel bike.

The main upgrade made to the regular2 is its’ easily accessed steel bell spring with a brass tipped bell hammer. You can ring this bell with your hands in a relaxed in-control position on your bar tops, without needing to look - even with winter gloves. The Bell’s crisp and shrill 95db ring will notably improve your communication distance and clarity with fellow trail and road users. The mount is easy and quick to install thanks to the 2-piece clamp design borrowed from its lightweight sister line (raceday sl) which was designed for Team Visma | Lease a Bike.

Functionality counts too: Beyond the subtly integrated bell, the regular2 includes a hard mount point for a GoPro or lamp adapter, underneath. The total package makes it a go-to solution for anyone wanting a cleaner cockpit with any level of accessories, while maintaining a minimal look and aerodynamic profile.
