VIP@HOME, hospitality in times of corona
What do you do in times of corona when you cannot go to the cycling race with your relations? Bring the unique experience of a cycling race to people's homes. At least a little bit.
Last Sunday, the only Dutch UCI World Tour classic was scheduled, the Amstel Gold Race. 219.7 kilometers with 38 climbs and a total of 2,785 altimeters. The Limburg hill classic took place on a circuit of more than 16 kilometers between Valkenburg and Maastricht. The outcome is now known, two victories, in both the men's and the women's edition. Achievements that we as Team Jumbo-Visma are extremely proud of.
In the run-up to the Amstel Gold Race, we surprised our sponsor relations with a surprise package full of tasty snacks to experience the race from home in a relaxed way. A number of fan items completed the experience so that even the youngest fans could enjoy themselves at home (while dad relaxed on the couch watching the race). We completed the total experience by launching a WhatsApp group on the race day itself, in which we met more than 150 relations. In the morning we kicked off with the Ladies Edition. Could Marianne Vos make it happen? We gave a behind-the-scenes view from the pre-race meeting from the team bus and shared live updates throughout the race. The release in the group was great when Marianne was the first to cross the finish line. After the finish, various videos caused goosebumps for all participants of the WhatsApp group immediately.
"Corona requires creativity, but as a result, also creates new initiatives that are sometimes worth repeating in the future."
Then on to the men's race. Could they match the performance of Marianne and the team? During the afternoon we again included our sponsor relations in the race with inside information from the team leaders car supplemented by input from our knowledge panel. Various experts, both from our team and by our clothing partner AGU and cycling partner Cervélo, took part in the conversation to answer questions and share the latest developments. The conversation exploded again when Wout van Aert was the first to cross the line at 5:30 PM. Had he won or not? The tension was built up for a while, but the afternoon ended in a true euphoria when it turned out that the victory for the men was also for Team Jumbo-Visma.
Corona requires creativity, but as a result, also creates new initiatives that are sometimes worth repeating in the future. Experiencing the race in this way with the loyal and very involved sponsor group of Team Jumbo-Visma was unique and, as far as we are concerned, tastes like more. A special thanks to our partners Shimano and Parkhotel Valkenburg for making great prizes available. A bit of entertainment could of course not be missing during this successful day of racing. Altorffer was responsible for the logistics process and ensured that all beautifully designed surprise packages were delivered to everyone's home on time.
Winning together was really winning together this afternoon and that is definitely worth repeating!
