Dutch champion Van Emden concludes season with victory in Chrono des Nations
Dutch time trial champion Jos van Emden has won the prestigious Chrono des Nations in Les Herbiers. In the 46-kilometre long time trial on a hilly course, Van Emden was eleven seconds faster than Italian Filippo Ganna. Vuelta winner and number one in the world Primoz Roglic made it a more than perfect day for Team Jumbo-Visma by finishing third.
For Van Emden, it is his third victory of the season. The Dutchman won three time trials this year: the Chrono des Nations, the national championship and the prologue in the ZLM Tour. Due to Van Emden’s win today, Team Jumbo-Visma raised its tally of race victories to 52 in its most successful season to date. And it’s not finished yet: there’s a chance for more in the final stages of the Tour of Guangxi.
Van Emden was more than happy with his appealing victory. “I’m winning my third time trial of the year here. And it was a long time trial as well. I am very happy that I have won my first time trial in my red-white-blue tricolore. And that I am also able to win a time trial on a very hilly course. The fact that Primoz finishes third makes it even more special for the team.”
Sports director Grischa Niermann called it a beautiful European season ender after a great season. “This is a very nice way to end the season. We had prepared the time trial in every detail. Jos still wanted to ride and he was very motivated to go flat out as a national champion. He had a good rhythm from the start and that proved to be sufficient for the victory. With Primoz on the podium as well, this was a more than successful day for us. Moreover, this day was representative for the entire year.”
