Timo Roosen finishes third on Hatta Dam in Tour of Dubai

Timo Roosen has sprinted to the third place in the Tour of Dubai’s queen stage. Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s 25-year-old rider could compete for the victory in a tough race and ultimately claimed the third place. As a result, Roosen climbed up to the seventh place in the general classification.

An early breakaway of six riders gained a large advantage on the peloton, but a bunch of favourites eventually competed for the victory. Timo Roosen was able to position himself very well. “Because Dylan Groenewegen didn’t have a chance on a good final result anymore after yesterday’s stage, Timo Roosen had the opportunity to show himself”, sports director Jan Boven said.

That worked out well. Not only was Roosen well positioned, he could also claim a podium place. “His teammates delivered a strong performance and it’s great that Timo could sprint to the third place after a tough stage.”

Tomorrow, Dylan Groenewegen gets another chance in the 129 kilometres final stage from Skydive Dubai to City Walk. At the moment, Groenewegen is second in the points classification, four points behind leader Elia Viviani. “Despite this, we will focus on a stage victory with Dylan in the first place. That would be a nice way to take revenge after what happened during the third stage”, Jan Boven concluded.
