Team Jumbo-Visma shows itself in second stage of Tour Down Under

Team Jumbo-Visma has shown its strength in the second stage of the Tour Down Under. The team of sports director Addy Engels rode in front all day long. It resulted in the seventh place for Timo Roosen and the tenth place for George Bennett.

Just like in the opening stage, four breakaway riders chose to attack at the start of the stage. At about 25 kilometres from the finish in Stirling, the last escapee was reeled in. Hectic kilometres followed in the hills surrounding Adelaide, with Team Jumbo-Visma always at the front. In the last intermediate sprint, Bennett cleverly took one bonus second. The Australian Caleb Ewan claimed the victory on the uphill finish.

Engels was delighted with the performance of his team. “We rode very well. In the final lap, the classification riders were well-positioned in front. Unfortunately, Chris Harper crashed in the last two kilometres, but luckily without sustaining any serious injuries. It’s great that Bennett managed to get a second on the way. That could ultimately make a difference in the rankings.”

Timo Roosen had seen a super strong team. “Everyone was there at the right moment. It was nice to be part of it. I am pretty happy with my seventh place. I felt very good, but I lost some positions on the last roundabout. At that moment, I started my sprint, resulting in the seventh place.”
