Team Jumbo-Visma heads to Vuelta with big GC ambition
Team Jumbo-Visma is heading to the Vuelta a España with big GC ambitions. Leader Primoz Roglic has backup leaders Steven Kruijswijk and George Bennett by his side in his hunt for the GC win.
Roglic prepared for the Tour with a specific high altitude training, after the decision to skip the Tour de France. Last year, Kruijswijk became fourth and he recently finished third in the Tour. Bennett already took a top ten spot in both the Vuelta and Giro.
The Dutchmen Robert Gesink and Lennard Hofstede, the Americans Sepp Kuss and Neilson Powless and the German Tony Martin will support the three GC men. For Powless, it’s his debut in a grand tour. In the Tour de Pologne, he showed his climbers legs as he became second in the last stage.
Due to the limited sprint chances and the GC ambitions of the team, Roglic and Martin have replaced Dylan Groenewegen and Timo Roosen who were part of the provisional line-up this winter.
The Vuelta a España starts on Saturday 24 August with a team time trial in Torrevieja.
