Team Jumbo-Visma feels warm 'sausage rolls' during the first stage of Tour Down Under

The World Tour season has started today with the Tour Down Under. In the first stage Danny van Poppel finished ninth and George Bennett finished in the peloton without any problems.

With temperatures up to 45 degrees Celcius it was a very hot day on the bike. "It was terribly hot", Van Poppel said. "Somewhere on the course it was thirty degrees, it just felt cold. Above forty degrees it feels like you are taking sausage rolls out of the oven. You get a blow of heat in your face."

"It feels like you are taking sausage rolls out of the oven."

According to sports director Frans Maassen, Van Poppel came in the front position a bit too early. "The lead-out went well, but Danny had to start too early. The finish of tomorrow suits him better. In addition, George and Robert (Gesink) have come through the day well.”

"Tomorrow is a good sprint for me", Van Poppel looked forward. "The lead-out went well today. If that's the same tomorrow, I'll have a good chance.”
