Seventh place for Timo Roosen in GP Stad Zottegem

Timo Roosen has finished seventh in the GP Stad Zottegem. Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s 24-year-old rider was able to position himself up front in the sprint after a 198 kilometres race. The Belgian rider Jasper De Buyst took the victory.

The race went as planned for Team LottoNL-Jumbo until Timo Roosen and Lars Boom both had a puncture. “At that moment Amund Grondahl Jansen was in a leading group of fifteen riders, but one rider of our team in such a big group was not enough. So we decided to chase them”, sports director Frans Maassen stated afterwards.

The team wanted to close the gap before the Paddestraat, so Lars Boom could try something on the cobblestones. “But the regrouping only took place in the final kilometres. Unfortunately, there was no more opportunity to attack.”

Team LottoNL-Jumbo chose to ride for Lars Boom in the final. “The race suited him very well. After his puncture we managed to close the gap, but the bunch was still too big. Although Timo sprinted to the seventh place and Amund finished eleventh, we hoped for more."
