Roglic enters top ten after second stage Valencia
In the second stage of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, Primoz Roglic has done an excellent job for his position in the general classification. The 28-year-old Slovene crossed the line with Neilson Powless and climbed to the eighth place in the GC. Winner of the first stage Danny van Poppel was able to be competitive in the mountain stage for a long time, but had to let the peloton go on the last climb.
"Of course we had taken this into account beforehand", sports director Grischa Niermann explained afterwards. "On that climb, the entire peloton was pulled apart and Danny could not follow."
Subsequently, Neilson Powless and Primoz Roglic were present in the chasing group that hunted the three escapees. "In the end, that did not work out, but it wasn’t bad. Of course you want to win every course, but this isn’t always possible. With the eighth place, Primoz is our main guy to play out, starting tomorrow during the team time trial. We have a lot to gain there", said Niermann.
Roglic said that it was hard work in the peloton today. "We were riding full throttle all day long, but uphill it was really hard." The number eight of the current classification suffered a small crash in the neutral zone. "There was some oil on the road and I slipped. Tomorrow I expect that it will be slippery again during the time trial.”
