Roglic displays good form in Giro mountain stage

Primoz Roglic has finished seventh in the thirteenth stage of the Giro d’Italia. The Slovenian conceded just under three minutes to stage winner Zakarin. In the general classification he remains second at almost two and a half minutes from GC leader Polanc.

Antwan Tolhoek was present in the breakaway of the day. He was part of a leading group of twenty-seven riders. Team Jumbo-Visma controlled the race and did not allow the leading group a bigger lead than three minutes. On the final climb, Roglic proved to be in good shape and crossed the line together with Nibali.

Sports director Addy Engels thought the race went well for his team. “After a difficult start, it was good that we had someone in the breakaway. We controlled the race together with UAE-Team Emirates and we showed ourselves until the second climb of the day. We also showed that we are motivated to take responsibility as a team. Primoz confirmed that he was fine on the final climb. It may have looked like he was fighting an individual duel with Nibali, but there were dangerous men in front of him and behind him. It was not like Primoz did not want to ride. This was his way of distributing his energy in an efficient way. We know that the lower-ranked riders will attack earlier and even go with the early break. These riders have now taken some time on Primoz, but I think it was a good ride for us. Looking at the classification, I can say we are doing well.”
