Puncture ruins Groenewegen’s chances in Münsterland Giro

Dylan Groenewegen has been unable to sprint for the victory in the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro due to a flat tire. In the final kilometre, the sprinter of Team Jumbo-Visma was forced to let the peloton go. Mike Teunissen tried to save the day for the Dutch team and seized sixth place.

The solo leader Brian van Goethem was caught in the final kilometre, after which the peloton got ready for a sprint.

“It was a tough race”, sports director Grischa Niermann said. “Along the way it went as we had hoped. We were well in front and Dylan felt good. It is a pity that a flat tire in the final interrupted our plan. When Mike realised that Dylan had a problem, he seized the opportunity. He finished sixth and that’s fine, but we had come here to win.”
