No top result for Team Jumbo-Visma in Montréal
Team Jumbo-Visma hasn’t been able to achieve a satisfactory result in the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal in Canada. The team of Nico Verhoeven was not represented in the decisive move. Timo Roosen finished third in the peloton sprint in 21st place.
However, Team Jumbo-Visma did well until the last half a lap. Laurens De Plus and Antwan Tolhoek helped to ensure that the leading group was reeled in, while Jonas Vingegaard responded to attacks. Roosen rode attentively near the front all day, but was unable to join the decisive move when the peloton split on the penultimate climb.
“My legs felt good. Teams tried to make it a hard race from the beginning”, Roosen explained. “For me, it was mainly a matter of trying to survive on such a difficult course. I joined one of the breakaway groups with, among others, Nibali and Evenepoel. I was hoping for a sprint. When the decisive move went clear on the last long climb, I was in a group with Matthews. After that we just hoped that they would stop riding in the front. That did not happen, because there was a lot of tailwind. The result today is somewhat disappointing, but I cannot be dissatisfied with how I am feeling lately.”
