Kruijswijk ready & attentive towards the Tour de Suisse's first mountains

Steven Kruiswijk, 24th, led Team LottoNL-Jumbo to the finish in the third stage of the Tour de Suisse today. The stage from Menziken to Bern was won by Michael Matthews, who also took the overall lead. Kruijswijk sits 25th, the best placed team rider.

“Today was a bit easier than yesterday, but the final contained a very tricky bit," Sports Director Addy Engels said. “The breakaway of the day was a group of two riders, who were easily controlled by the bunch. But the final part of the stage was tricky and most of all, quite hectic. We had the plan to attack with Lars Boom on the final climb right before the finish, but they rode so hard. It was not possible to attack there. Lars tried, but he wasn't as well as yesterday."

“It is good to see Steven finished in the first group of riders. He felt quite good. The first three stages went well for Steven."

“Tomorrow is the first mountain stage, with an uphill finish. We have to see how well Steven feels. We will do everything to drop him off in a good position at the start of the last climb and we will see at the finish line how well that went for him.”
