Kruijswijk closes the Tour de Suisse 3rd overall

LottoNL-Jumbo’s Steven Kruijswijk finished the Tour de Suisse in third place overall behind winner Simon Spilak. He ended in sixth place behind in the time trial around Schaffhausen, where Rohan Dennis won.

“Steven rode a good time trial and closed in a fundamental sixth place,” Sports Director Addy Engels said after the last stage. “Caruso and Spilak also rode a good time trials and finished ahead of Steven."

“It is a bit like the last uphill finish. We hoped to get more and Steven rode full-gas, but we did not win a place with it. Today, Steven has given everything again.”

The Dutchman finished 1-08 back in the overall, but just 20 seconds off of second place Damiano Caruso.

“You always strive for the highest achievable spot. Before we came here, we did not know how good Steven was then it turns out Steven rides exceptional."

“He abandoned the Giro two weeks before coming here, so to grab a podium in a highly-ranked WorldTour race is important. It was a fair battle and it turned out that Spilak and Caruso were a bit better at this moment. The team supported Steven well on his way to the podium.”
