Kruijswijk and Bennett off to Barcelona well classified

George Bennett and Steven Kruijswijk are in sight of a good classification with the last stage of the Tour of Catalonia coming up.

Only at the end of the shortened penultimate stage it became hectic for Kruijswijk and Bennett. Because of the strong wind there were echelons. “Our boys anticipated this very much”, sports director Grischa Niermann concluded. “All five of them were in the front group. As a result, George and Steven did not lose time and the today’s mission succeeded.”

During the preliminary team meeting, the sports director had said that attacks weren’t an option today. “With a diluted team, we needed everyone grouped together. Being present in the leading group has no priority in this case. In the last kilometres the peloton broke so it appeared it was the correct conclusion.”

Tomorrow, the last stage awaits in Barcelona, but that will not be a quiet turn around the grounds if it is up to Niermann. “We hope that it will be racing big time. With George we hope to gain some places in the GC. We would also like to see Steven in the top ten afterwards. We’re going full throttle.”
