Jansen continues good form with a strong start in Denmark
Amund Grøndahl Jansen has continued his excellent form with a strong start in the Tour of Denmark. The 25-year-old Norwegian Champion was part of the decisive breakaway that sprinted for the stage win. Jansen eventually finished sixth in the stage around Silkeborg.
After the various breakaways were taken in, Jansen went on the attack in the last five kilometres along with six others, including the later stage winner Tiesj Benoot. Jansen tried to get away solo just before the final kilometre, but was countered by Benoot.
"It was a very good final for me," Jansen explained. “The stage suited me really well, but it's never easy to win. Lotto-Soudal had two guys in the front and played it out well. When Tiesj attacked, the others were quickly looking at me.
“In order to have a chance at all to win and not to lose unnecessary time, I just pulled through. Because of this I had to start my sprint early. With the strong headwind, it unfortunately didn't work out. All in all, the feeling is good and I look forward to the upcoming stages.”
