Grondahl Jansen fourth in Schaal Sels

Amund Grondahl Jansen ended fourth in Schaal Sels. The Norwegian from Team LottoNL-Jumbo escaped thirty kilometres from the finish line in a small group, but he wasn’t good enough to compete for the win.

“It was a really tough race from the start", he said. ”Unfortunately, I had a puncture at a bad moment twice. When I returned to the peloton after my second puncture, I escaped on the cobblestones with six other riders. I ultimately stayed in front with that group.” Jansen was in a hard situation in the final kilometres. “Van Aert escaped and I tried to close the gap. Van der Hoorn jumped towards Van Aert, but I couldn’t follow him. Together with two other riders I sprinted for the third place, but one of them was faster.”

Twan Castelijns rode an aggressive race. “We started the race with the idea that one of us should always be in front of the race. I managed that a few times. When the group with Amund escaped, I had a puncture. It meant the end of the race for me.” Castelijns explained his aggressive way of riding the past few weeks. “My contract ends this year and it will not be extended. I try to stand out. This way I want to show myself to the other teams.”
