Groenewegen sprints to first win for Team Jumbo-Visma in Valencia

Dylan Groenewegen has won the final stage of the Vuelta a la Comunitat Valenciana. The 25-year-old sprinter was the fastest in the bunch sprint in the streets of Valencia. The fast Dutchman not only claimed his first win of the season, it was also the first of his team Team Jumbo-Visma.

The short stage in Valencia was marked by the traditional early breakaway, which was caught in the final by Team-Jumbo Visma. In the chaotic final kilometre, Groenewegen had to come from far, but he managed to take the stage victory in the final metres.

“This is a victory for the entire team. The team was really strong today”, Groenewegen said. “It was a tough final with many corners and the pace was very high. In the last corner I had to come from too far back, but by jumping from wheel to wheel, I managed to claim the victory. The team did a great job the entire day by controlling the race and I’m glad I finished it for them. For me, this victory is very important. It gives confidence to the races that are yet to come. Today was a moment to do so. Not only is it my first win of the season, but also the first for the team under the new name. I am very happy.”
