Battaglin twelfth in Bretagne Classic

Enrico Battaglin couldn’t sprint for the win in Bretagne Classic. The Italian rider from Team LottoNL-Jumbo ended twelfth in the French WorldTour race. Paul Martens was part of the breakaway for a long time.

There were a lot of attacks in the final, but the race ended in a sprint. According to Sports Director Merijn Zeeman it was a knockout race. “There was a lot of elevation gain and there were many narrow roads. In the second part of the race, Paul was in a strong breakaway. The peloton had to chase really hard and just before the circuit, they were caught.”

Battaglin was the main man in the sprint. “After Paul was caught, another group escaped. We closed the gap and put everything on Enrico. He sprinted well, but there were a lot of world class riders present. A place in the top ten would’ve been nice, he just missed it now. As a team, we rode aggressively and motivated. For that matter, it was a good race for us."
