A chat with: Twan Castelijns

Twan Castelijns is one of the riders of Team LottoNL-Jumbo who has to help Steven Kruijswijk the upcoming week. Time for a chat!
 
The Giro started two weeks ago. How are you feeling?
I’m feeling all right! The rest day came at the right moment. I wasn’t feeling so wel the first stages. Since the stages in Italy, I’m feeling better. But it’s heavy, especially the stages on Friday and Saturday. But I recover well. With Steven in the pink jersey. It gives moral, more than we already had!
 
Great to hear! Talking about Steven, how does it feels like to have a pink jersey in the team?
It’s a great feeling! We started very well with Steven and he rode alert. He already had a good place in de general classification, but it was amazing when we heard he became number 1. The finish line was 20 kilometres away, but it seemed shorter. When he took a lot of time in the time trial, it confirmed that he’s in a very good shape. I think it’s special to work for someone who has the lead in one of the biggest races in the world!
 
Do you get more attention in the peloton and around you?
More and more. Riders of other team congratulate us with the results and I think that they notice in what shape Steven is. For me, I got a lot of congratulations of friends.
 
How does the rest of the Giro looks like for you?
Time flies! Fifteen stages behind and six to go. It went fast, but the last week will be tough. We’ve a strong team to defend the jersey. I want to learn of the experienced men and try to help Steven as good as I can, together with the team.
