A chat with: Sep Vanmarcke
Sep Vanmarcke doesn't ride the Belgium Opening Weekend. Time for a chat!
You don’t ride Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne and Omloop het Nieuwsblad. Why not?
Every year, I’m in really good shape at the
Belgium
Opening Weekend. But it’s a long way from that weekend to the big classic races. This year, I wanted an easier start.
Do you want to be at your best in the
Ronde
van Vlaanderen and Paris-Roubaix instead of all the spring classics?
No, I want to be in shape from Milano-San Remo until the Amstel
Gold
Race. That periode include races are all the spring classics, except for Omloop het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. I don’t ride fewer races than
the
year before; I just moved my peak period.
And how is your preparation for the
season?
The preparations are going well. I started the winter training
easier than normal. I had a wrist surgery end of November. That was planned and it worked out well. I also changed the intensity of my training compared to last year.
After
the spring classics, we will know if we made the right decision.
